Documentum – EMC World – Momentum 2012 – Early Predictions

Once again TSG is attending EMC World in Las Vegas – May 21-24.  For those interested, early discounts are still available at http://www.emcworld.com/momentum.htm.  While not much is known at this point in time about the final agenda list (or who the opening/closing acts are), this post will try to take a guess at the dominant themes based on the Momentum Conference Agenda.

Alfresco Consulting – Documentum Disruptor #2

We posted an article last week on how Alfresco and SharePoint were Disrupting Documentum.  The term disruptor is from the Innovators Dilemma business book and it relates to how difficult it is for one company to continue technology innovation over time and newcomers disrupt the industry.  In a phone discussion with one of the responders, we discussed how consulting resources (like ourselves) are assisting in that cycle. This post will discuss how TSG and others Alfresco consulting firms are accelerating the disruption of established ECM tools like FileNet or Documentum.

Documentum Foundation Services – What Happened?

Unveiled with D6 in 2007, Documentum Foundation Services (DFS) was the service-oriented  replacement for the Documentum Foundation Class (DFC) and the Microsoft specific Primary Interop Assembly (PIA) including lingering components of the original Documentum API still embedded within the DFC.  With the announcement at EMC World that the new development environment will be a REST based API built on the DFC, Documentum customers might be wondering about the future of DFS.  This post will discuss the different web services approaches and present some TSG thoughts on the subject of the DFS as well as the upcoming REST API.
